Cultural Export: ORI Shines at Cannes

On October 19, 2023, the autumn edition of MIPCOM in Cannes, France, concluded successfully, marking a fruitful journey for ORI at this prestigious event.

MIPCOM, the largest and most influential audiovisual content market globally, gathers industry professionals from various sectors to network, collaborate, exchange ideas, discuss future trends and bonding international partnerships. This year’s MIPCOM attracted participants from over 100 countries, including government agencies, broadcasters, platforms and production companies, with more than 11,000 industry professionals in attendance. After five years, China returned to MIPCOM as the "Country of Honor," to promote its audiovisual works on the global stage through hosting high-level forums, pitch conference, and joint exhibition booth . This marked ORI’s first appearance at an international Television festival since the pandemic.

ORI, with its long-standing commitment to international cooperation, adheres to the philosophy of “telling Chinese stories the world can understand and telling global stories that resonate with China.” Guided by principles of mutual respect and win collaboration, ORI has spent over a decade mastering the art of cultural export through empathetic and globally appealing animated projects. At MIPCOM, ORI presented a lineup of outstanding titles, including TV animations series Together, Duo Duo, Panda Ming, and animated feature films such as Hockey King and One Day.

The stop-motion co-production Together made a remarkable debut at MIPCOM. The series, centered on the theme “Harmony in Diversity,” follows three Chinese friends as they explore different cultures worldwide while sharing traditional Chinese heritage. The first season involved collaborations with countries such as Serbia, Thailand, Saudi Arabia, and Armenia. During the event, ORI also held in-depth discussions with media companies from Hungary, Singapore, and Malaysia, exploring partnerships for future seasons. As ORI's flagship international animation brand under the "Belt and Road Initiative," the series aims to produce three seasons over five years, covering cultural stories from 18 countries.

Another highlight was the co-produced TV animation Duo Duo with Singapore, which drew widespread attention. With a theme of “The best family and friends are always around you,” this educational animation integrates core of Chinese cultural values of unity, kindness, and inclusiveness, making it a outstanding project the international market.

ORI’s projects, characterized by their unique storytelling, diverse characters, and high production quality, captured the interest of many industry professionals. Numerous companies expressed interest in collaborating with ORI to deepen partnerships. Additionally, films such as Hockey King and One Day sought television distribution partnerships to broaden their audience and enhance their global influence.
